Registered Massage Therapy
Massage therapy involves hands-on manipulation of the body’s tissue including muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments and joints. It helps to decrease pain and improve mobility by increasing circulation as well as the supply of oxygen and nutrients to the body. Massage is able to help promote the body’s natural healing process in addition to the assessment and treatment of the soft tissue and joints of the body. A variety of modalities such as Deep Tissue, Trigger Point Therapy, Cupping Therapy, Myofascial Release, Frictions and Hydrotherapy are some that are used to achieve a therapeutic response. The initial treatment includes: consultation, assessment, treatment plan, massage and home care advice.
Relaxation Massage
Uses slow rhythmic techniques to gently guide your nervous system into a deeply restful state, allowing you to feel nourished, calm, and relaxed. This massage is ideal for people experiencing high levels of stress, anxiety, depression, fatigue, or who are having difficulty sleeping.
Deep Tissue Massage
Used to release tight muscles and deep-seated aches or pains. Techniques are designed to realign poor posture and restore proper range of motion. It is common to feel a little sore after this kind of massage, however in the next day or two you will feel significant changes in your body with increased flexibility and reduced pain.
Trigger Point Therapy
During a trigger point session, the therapist will press on a specific area of the body to locate the nodules, then gently apply pressure to release the irritated tissue. Trigger point therapy reduces pain, relieves tension, and increases range of motion. It not only unlocks tension in one part of the body, it’s a great way to increase overall circulation and help muscles regain their full function.
Grief &Emotional Healing Massage
Helps a person heal by allowing them to shift out of the stress response and into the relaxation response. Following a major loss, grieving individuals often find it very difficult to relax on their own. Here’s where a massage therapist can help.
Cupping Massage
Cupping therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine in which a therapist puts special cups on your skin for a few minutes to create suction. Cupping Massage will help break down rigid tissue muscle and fascia, and assists in the release of excess fluids and toxins. It also promotes blood flow and can helps improve range of motion.
Myofascial Release
Fascia is connective tissue located throughout the entire body, surrounding all organs, muscles, and bones. It works as a sort of a netting that keeps everything in place and gives your body shape and form. Fascia can become tight and immobile from various factors including dehydration, stress, trauma and injury. Myofascial release works with the superficial fascia, which lies under the skin and connects to the deeper tissues. It can help to realign and improve mobility in the connective tissue, thereby allowing for greater ease and movement in the deeper tissues.
Pregnancy & C-section Scar Massage
Massage therapy during pregnancy is a wonderful complementary choice for prenatal care. It is a healthy way to reduce stress and promote overall wellness. It helps to promote relaxation and reduce stress, relief from muscle soreness due to pregnancy, reduces stress on weight-bearing joints, helps increase circulation and decrease swelling.
The number of Caesarean births are on the rise in Canada and not enough attention or information is given to women after delivery about how to optimize their scar and abdominal wall recovery. Although C-sections are relatively quick procedures, the healing process after delivery usually requires more time and attention than an uncomplicated vaginal birth.
During a Caesarean, your doctor will make an incision in your lower abdominal wall, just above your pubic bone. They will cut through multiple layers or tissue (skin and fascia) and into the uterus. Once the baby is delivered they will suture the incision back together layer by layer.
In the first few weeks after delivery your body will begin to lay down scar tissue throughout each layer of tissue to allow for the incision to close and heal. This healing process is necessary and normal.
When a new scar is forming, scar tissue fibres lay themselves down in a disorganized way. When this happens adhesions can form where scar tissue binds to organs. This can create pelvic and low back pain, as well as pelvic floor dysfunctions, increased sensitivity, numbness or pain around the incision, reduced mobility and even bladder urgency and frequency. Scar tissue therapy can help to decrease adhesions or binding of tissues, to help the tissue layers slide and glide over one another, decrease pain and dysfunction and increase deep core connection.
Infant Massage
Infant massage by a Registered Massage Therapist can help your infant sleep better, reduce growing pains, lessen symptoms from gas, reflux, colic and helps with cognitive development. Babies with motor coordination challenges, or other medical conditions also benefit from massage therapy. For infants 0-12 months old, touch is important to their development and well-being, as it brings about a sense of connection, calms anxiety and improves circulation and digestion.
Children’s Massage
Your young ones are more active than ever, in mind and in body. Teaching them to manage stress and body awareness while they are young can help prevent a lifetime of chronic pain and poor habits. We only get one body during this life. Give your children the gift of learning how to take care of it at a young age. Massage is proven to increase dopamine (the feel good hormone) and decrease cortisol (the stress hormone). This helps regulate anxiety and stress levels that can become imbalanced due to social, family and academic pressures. Massage helps decrease muscle tension and increase range of motion, which assists in recovering from, or preventing, injuries. Massage can improve quality of sleep, provide more energy and increase concentration.
